Today I saw the most beautiful sunrise I remember ever watching.
I woke up at 0335 hours, got up, and advanced some in my OCR project. 0230 hours later I began walking to the gym. The sky was quite clear, though some clouds near the horizon reflected the sun's light.
They were painted gray on the top side and golden on the bottom, a golden I had never quite seen before. It was not really a single color, but a dazzling mixture of mainly sky-gray, cloud-white, and a certain orange gold. There were small gaps in between the clouds, where I could see a farther, grayer shade of gold. There was also a slight falling breeze, not at all uncomfortable. It was just strong enough to feel, after which it was easier to notice falling in between the rest of the sky.
The golden clouds were directly in front of me, so I admired them as I walked. Most clouds had their own golden glints, either on the bottom or on their side, so I couldn't even tell where the sun was.
This golden glint, spread along the sky, gave me an impression of something I've never seen, but it just felt great.
As I turned right to the gym, I had to look left while I walked so I could keep on watching these clouds. In a spot between blocks where I had a good view, I stopped awhile to observe the sky carefully. It was awesome. Then I turned to continue walking, and was met by a completely different, but no less beautiful, view of the sky. It was a rainbow,
visible in a very large and clear area of the sky, with no clouds around it, and MUCH prettier than the little icon you see here. More than half of the rainbow's complete circle was visible, and its colors were so very distinguishable, but also diffuse, as if by a visual effect of the light rain. It was actually a double rainbow,
and both were very clear, the inner one brighter
than the other.
I was momentarily shocked by the view... I even had that tingling sensation of mixed beauty and awe.
I began thanking my luck for letting me see such a wonderful view, and I wished there was someone there I could share the view with. I took a picture of it with my cellphone,
but of course, cameras
can't capture the feeling that this rainbow inspired (much less the one in my cellphone). I wanted to call someone, tell someone, but there was no one there, and it was a bit too early to call people without getting them angry.
So I just kept on watching that gorgeous rainbow...
I stopped caring about the gym or about being in the middle of the street. The view was just SO awesome.
A few minutes later, the rainbow
(both rainbows, actually) began fading away, little by little, both in brightness and in arc. I watched them slowly fade, watched the whole process, until they completely merged into the clear sky-blue background. Such a wonderful sight. That view was a magnificent example of what we people miss by being in a hurry such a large part of our time. Amazing.
And then I did some exercise, swam 500m, and came back home.
