This 3-letter acronym is just one of many that already mean several things. As if 26*26*26 = 17576 combinations weren't enough. Well, no, they aren't.
Well, as you may know, DDR means Dance Dance Revolution. Which I like. As an avid computer user, I've already run into the RAM meaning of DDR: Double Data Rate. A more complete acronym is DDR SDRAM, meaning Double Data Rate Synchronous DRAM, and DRAM means Dynamic RAM, and RAM means Random Access Memory. So it's all: DOUBLE DATA RATE SYNCHRONOUS DYNAMIC RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY. And it doesn't stop there... Look at this: http://www.auditmypc.com/acronym/DDR.asp! There's at least TEN different meanings! (Search for EEPROM).
HAH! This one's better: a real gem if you're into computers (of course you are, ur using one): http://www.geocities.com/ikind_babel/babel/babel.html
Anyway, today I wanted to buy some RAM. 1/2 GB, I found an excellent deal for DDR RAM 400 MHz. But on the way to buying it, I began wondering if the DDR part meant anything... so I called JM; HE told me they wouldn't fit in MY PC
. So I had to say DAMN and go back. So I still need RAM. DIMM RAM, please.
Some things worth of mention today:
- I was supposed to do some project today with my class partner at 1400. Interestingly enough, she told me that the day I did NOT go to class, the teacher had told her I wasn't in the course anymore, so she had changed partners. The funny thing is: I can't complain to my teacher about it. A friend of mine signed the attendance sheet for me... I can't go to her and ask her what had she said, cause then she'd maybe check the attendance sheet, and realize that I signed the attendance sheet precisely the day I had not come to class. And I'd be in quite a pickle (I read this expression SOMEwhere). So now I have no partner for the project. Too bad.
- I had my first Choir class today. The class blends perfectly into my schedule! There are like 13 students in the class. And twelve of them are female. How weird can it get. I'll get to meet lots of new girls, though
.
- I had asked the university if they had any computer equipment they didn't use and were willing to throw away. They did... and I got to choose the stuff I wanted about a week ago. Today I was given it: so I now am the proud owner of:
- A 33 MHz CPU with both sizes of floppy drives, and the other stuff u usually find in a PC case (an old one). No hard disk though. HMMM... I just realized it doesn't have any PS/2 ports.
- An iomega Predator external CD writer... WITHOUT its connector.
- An OmniPro UPS, which does not stay charged. I'll use it as a... whatchamacallit? multiple outlet?
- A Tripp-Lite "LINE STABILIZER/CONDITIONER". It says... LOW VOLTAGE REGULATOR WITH SPIKE BAR NOISE & SPIKE SUPPRESSION MODEL LS-600 b INPUT 87-127 V.60 HZ, 5A. OUTPUT: WITHIN ANSI-C84.1 VOLTAGE LIMITS MAXIMUM LOAD 600 WATTS. It makes a noise like a microwave and shakes when I plug it into an outlet.
- Two speakers... which, by the way, I can't find right now.
- A monitor (I'm picking it up tomorrow).
